President Trump was so impressed with the Churchill movie, Darkest Hour, he has held a special screening for Congress at the White House. A barnstorming performance by Gary Oldman as Churchill has already garnered three awards for the actor and now he is up for Best Actor at the Oscars.
Oldman plays the epic Prime Minister as a forceful, humorous, idiosyncratic, sometimes conflicted character. The interpretation is both powerful and deeply touching. Continue reading
In a childish display of military might, Kim Jong-Un held a parade of missiles in the streets of Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. My missiles are bigger than yours was his unsubtle message. The response of our Foreign Secretary was measured. Stop threatening international security and abide by UN rules, he told Kim. Prez Trump has warned that North Korea is “looking for trouble” and ordered an aircraft carrier group to the area to highlight American concern. China has expressed fears that “conflict could break out at any moment”, and that such a situation would bring no winners. Continue reading
The so called spontaneous demonstrations against President Trump are not as spontaneous as they appear. It has always struck me as strange how very well organised the demonstrations are. On the day after Hillary Clinton lost the Presidency, there was civil unrest. It struck me as highly peculiar that demonstrators were brandishing exceptionally well made printed banners, with well thought out slogans. As soon as I read that Tony Blair has a £10 million war chest to undermine Brexit and populism, it was hard not to smell a rat. Steve Hilton, ex guru of the Cameron government, who left, disillusioned, to go to the States, was on Fox News today, beaming and bursting with enthusiasm. Once more, we are seeing the old, hopeful Steve, excited and energised by recent events.
It was clear from the body language in the interview they gave on Fox that “Bibi” Netanyahu and Prez Donald Trump have a genuine rapport. They kidded each other and talked about deal making. President Trump is keen to solve the Israel/Palestine impasse and he should only be applauded for the scale of his ambition. Continue reading
