The truth is that in trying to undermine Brexit, Remainers such as Anna Soubry and Dominic Grieve do not have a leg to stand on. Parliament voted 544 to 53 to hold the referendum and later by 498 to 144 to notify the EU of our intention to leave.
If that was not enough parliamentary involvement, 85 per cent of the electorate voted for parties committed to leaving the EU this year’s election. The electorate’s and Parliament’s clear will is to leave the EU.
Just before the referendum was held, when he was PM, David Cameron pledged on air and in Parliament that the decision of the EU Referendum would be final. He also clearly pledged that there would be no second referendum. All this is recorded in Hansard.
The Prime Minister was absolutely clear.
In a speech at the Chatham House Royal Institute of International Affairs in November 2015, he stated: ‘When the British people speak, their voice will be respected — not ignored.
‘If we vote to leave, then we will leave. There will not be another renegotiation and another referendum.’
Finally, in the Conservative manifesto of the 2017 election, the Government pledged “we will be leaving the single market and the customs union.”
If Mrs. May implied to Remainers this week that they were entitled to a deal over the customs union, she made a mistake. The decision on Brexit is made. Reversing that now would be deeply divisive, fundamentally undemocratic and destroy the trust of the British people who now just want the government to get on with delivering Brexit.
Enough now! 63% of all constituencies voted for Leave.. The University of East Anglia worked out what the result would be if the votes were calculated as in a GE. That is a landslide. There are 650 constituencies, and 650 MPs. 401 MPs represent a Leave constituency. Every Remoaner rebel represents a Leave constituency. It is time that they stopped this nonsense and did their duty now. Politicians are meant to serve the people. Not the other way round.
