Boris well ahead of May for Tory leadership

In view of the continual speculation about the future party leadership of all parties, the Times is running a series, starting with the Tories.Johnson sets out tax cuts campaignThe Times reported:

Exclusively for Red Box, YouGov asked the public, for each of six candidates, whether people thought they would make “a good leader”, or “not a good leader”, whether they were “not sure”, or whether they “didn’t know enough about this person to say”. So Johnson has an early lead over May among voters generally and among Tory supporters.

  • Boris Johnson, 29-42-19-11
  • Theresa May, 23-37-23-17
  • George Osborne, 13-47-25-16
  • Sajid Javid, 4-25-15-56
  • Jeremy Hunt, 4-39-21-36
  • Liz Truss, 2-23-15-61

Among just Conservative voters, it was:

  • Boris Johnson, 47-28-21-4
  • Theresa May, 37-29-25-9
  • George Osborne, 29-30-34-7
  • Sajid Javid, 6-22-19-53
  • Jeremy Hunt, 5-34-26-35
  • Liz Truss, 3-20-16-62

George Osborne and Sajid Javid are well behind in third and fourth place.

In the latest YouGov research, Boris Johnson is seen both as more capable and more likeable than Nigel Farage and Alex Salmond.yougovAlex Salmond more likeable than Nigel Farage? I can imagine how that will go down with Kippers…..
