THIS ARTICLE WAS HACKED AND THE LINKS WERE TAMPERED WITH. OPPONENTS OF BORIS JOHNSON WANT TO CAST DOUBT ON THE FANTASTIC WORK DONE BY BORIS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE. LINKS REPLACED, AS FAR AS I COULD.
A few days ago, the ITV programme London Tonight ran an item about school teachers who were so concerned that school kids were not getting enough to eat, they were buying food with their own money to feed their pupils. This must be of huge concern to us all.
Either our Mayor had already pre-empted the problem, or he acted with lightning speed and produced a solution. An article on the Mayor of London Official website invites teachers of primary and secondary schools in London to contact the website by filling out an anonymous survey if they are worried that kids are not getting enough to eat. Certain basic details, such as area, are requested, as explained in the article.
It’s a sensible idea to get feedback from teachers, who are well placed to assess when kids are in need. The closing date for the survey is December 7th. Nobody wants to think of kids going hungry. Well done to City Hall for responding so promptly and in such a practical way and thank you London Tonight for highlighting the problem.
Update. This article in the Guardian shows that after his research, Boris Johnson invested £650,000 in the Magic Breakfast scheme for the 50 poorest schools in London.
The Mayor is also backing special supermarkets containing food donated by the major supermarket chains. More details later.
