On the Nick Ferrari LBC radio show today, Boris was in a fighting mood as he bluntly derided Ken Livingstone’s promise to cut fares. Ken has promised to cut fares by 7%, when the TfL budget is so hard pressed, it has a black hole.
Boris Johnson today accused Ken Livingstone of making “fraudulent” promises to slash bus and Tube fares if he is elected mayor. A day after a Standard poll revealed that this year’s mayoral contest is on a knife edge, Mr Johnson said London must not go back to the “era of waste and divisiveness” seen during his Labour rival’s time in City Hall.
The London Standard reported today: ” Mr Johnson said London must not go back to the “era of waste and divisiveness” seen during his Labour rival’s time in City Hall. The Tory Mayor claimed Mr Livingstone had broken two past promises to freeze or cut fares.
“This is essentially a fraudulent prospectus that he has tried several times before and I don’t think it will wash,” he told Nick Ferrari on LBC radio.
“He would either have to whack up council tax… or he’d have to whack in another congestion charge… or he’d have to cut a bus route or a major upgrade of the Tube.”
Ken’s media appearances so far have seen him repeatedly caught out on air spouting facts that are not true. He shamelessly quotes false stats. with an air of fake sincerity, and being caught red handed does not seem to blunt his enthusiasm for rewriting history. Hardpressed Londoners need to know they are being cruelly misled by a candidate with his back to the wall, who doesn’t care what he does to get his job back.
